Indonesia's G20 Presidency in 2022

The G20, or Group of Twenty, is the premier forum for international economic cooperation, consisting of the world's major economies, including 19 countries and the European Union. 

 

Established in 1999, the G20 was formed with the aim of discussing policies to promote international financial stability. The forum emerged as an initiative to address the global economic challenges following the financial crisis of 1997–1999, involving middle-income countries with systemic economic influence—Indonesia among them.

 

G20 Forum Discussions

 

The G20 Summit Forum addresses two main streams of issues: the Finance Track and the Sherpa Track :

 

FINANCE TRACKSHERPA TRACK

The focus areas discussed pertain to economic and financial issues, including:

  1. Fiscal policy
  2. Monetary policy and real sector issues
  3. Infrastructure investment
  4. Financial regulation
  5. Financial inclusion
  6. International taxation

The focus areas discussed are broader in scope and include:

  1. Geopolitics
  2. Anti-corruption
  3. Development
  4. Trade
  5. Energy
  6. Climate change
  7. Gender equality
Discussions are conducted by the Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors of each member country.Discussions are carried out by the relevant ministries at the ministerial level of each member country.

 

G20 Indonesia 2022:  
The G20 Summit was held in Bali, Indonesia, making Indonesia the host of the 2022 G20 
Summit. The event carried the theme "Recover Together, Recover Stronger."

 

Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance and Bank Indonesia promoted the discussion of six (6) priority agendas within the Finance Track of Indonesia's G20 Presidency in 2022.

 

Six (6) Priority Agendas of the G20 Indonesia 2022:

 

  1. Coordinating exit strategies to support global recovery;
  2. Addressing the economic impacts of the pandemic (scarring effects) to promote stronger future growth;
  3. Strengthening payment systems in the digital era;
  4. Advancing sustainable finance;
  5. Enhancing inclusive financial systems;
  6. Promoting the international taxation agenda.

     

Legacy Issues 
Indonesia also continued to advance several legacy issues, including:

 

  1. Integrating pandemic and climate risks into global risk monitoring
  2. Strengthening the Global Financial Safety Net (GFSN)
  3. Enhancing capital flows
  4. Continuing the Data Gap Initiative
  5. Advancing financial sector regulatory reforms
  6. Improving debt management and transparency
  7. Accelerating infrastructure agendas toward sustainable and inclusive development
  8. Optimizing financing support from Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs)
  9. Strengthening health system capacity for pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response
  10. Continuing support to attract private sector investment in low-income countries, particularly in Africa
